MISSING: A female white ferret in the Corner Brook area. In the Station Road area next to the historic train site. She managed to get the tube off the back of my dryer and squeezed out the vent. She's all white with black eyes and is fairly petite. I'm so worried for her, there are dogs let loose here every night.... If any one can help or happens to see her can you please get in contact with me I'm worried sick.

Keep looking for her! We've had several cases of ferrets that have escaped and have been found in several days.
Put out a kennel/carrier with blanket, food and water near where she escaped. Set a live trap near your entrance.
Ask all your neighbours to watch for her. Post pictures in your area. Put an ad onto kijiji. Call the local SPCA.
Ferrets are usually found close to home underneath decks or porches, garages, sheds, basements, etc. Think like a ferret - she's going to head for shelter, someplace dark and close to the ground. Go outside and keep calling for her. Do this every morning and evening. Ferrets are most active at dusk and dawn.
Look for tracks in the snow and follow them.
Don't give up. She needs you to keep looking for her!!
My prayers go with you.
Hugs, Tressie
PS - leave a telephone number so that people can reach you in a hurry on your posters, on this message board, etc.

I'm so upset over this. I called the SPCA this morning and they took her information and my number but they don't have a human trap I can use. I have a carrier outside with her food, water and blankets she uses. And I mixed some ferretone with the food, she's obsessed with ferretone. I'm praying that I find her, I feel absolutely awful for letting this happen.

Hi Stephanie,
Keep looking for her! I've been thanked countless times by people who were about to give up but kept looking and ended up finding their fuzzkid.
Thoroughly search all out buildings near you, including those belonging to neighbours. If there is an opening of an inch beneath a door she can get in. So look inside as well as outside buildings. Look inside any pipes she might have crawled into.
If there is a way for her to get into your basement from outside, search that as well. She'll be hungry and looking for food and water.
If you have a porch or deck look underneath it with a flashlight. You might not see her otherwise. Look for poop there as well.
Good luck!

I live in a basement apartment, so no basement for her to get into. But she can however get under the house, so it'll be difficult to get her id she's under there. And all my neighbours a yards full of heaps and heaps of junk so it's going to take a while to look through it all. But I'm not giving up, I'll tear the place apart looking for her!!

Oh, I really hope that you find her soon. Don't forget to call the pound. Stray and found animals don't always end up at the SPCA. Some one may have found her and called them. Good luck!

If you don't have a squeaky toy get one. Ferrets absolutely HATE the sound they make and will come running to it.
People mistakenly think its cute that their ferrets come to the sound but in fact its quite irritating for the ferret and they have been known to bite and attack. HOWEVER, it is a great way to find a lost ferret.
Remember she'll be scared and may not come out right away. So you have to squeak or call and wait several minutes, listening carefully for any sounds, before moving on to next stop.
If you have a harness for Ruckus you can also take him out to look for her. She might come to him before she comes to you. Just be sure his harness is secure. You don't want to lose two of them!
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Hugs, Tressie

Ok I'll try that. My dog has a few sweaky toys, and I'll put Ruckus' harness on him (snuggly) and take him out to see if it wil help. I'm praying I'll find her, I feel so terrible.

What do you mean Tressie ? Do they attack humans or the squeaky toys lol ? I'm confused. Some people say ferrets come on the squeaky toy sound because it sounds like a ferret in distress ? I always knew this is a great way to find your lost ferret - they always come on that sound ! I always thought my ferrets run to that sound because its so noisy ! lol I thought they were like "ahhh mama gimme that stupid thing you're annoying me !"

Some ferrets will bite or attack the human holding the squeaky toy or someone near-by or the toy itself. Even a very docile ferret will bite.
There's two theories about why it bothers them so much:
-one that it sounds like a kit in distress and so the ferret attacks to protect the kit
-the other theory, is that it makes the sound of prey and brings out their predatory instincts.
It increases their blood pressure and heart rate, and in general upsets them.
Add a toddler with a squeaky toy and it can be dangerous to the child. This actually happened last year with someone who acquired ferrets as a rehome before we were organized as a rescue. His two-year-old daughter got bit quite badly in the face because she was waving a squeaky toy above her head teasing one of the ferrets with it.
It should only be used to call a ferret who is lost or missing.

Hum .. thanks Tressie. Its very interesting. Like I told you I thought they were coming because they only find the toys annoying. lol Well .. they do not attack us or the squeaky toys. They just come, grap it and hide it somewhere. *** We use it when you need to find them BUT .. demon knows how to make his squirrel squeak. Probably he thinks its the sound of a pray ..

UPDATE:
We think we know where she is. We have been hearing something in the walls the past night or two, she must have managed to squeeze into the walls of the house from somewhere outside when looking for somewhere warm to go. We have a vent opened up that goes into the wall and have got here food out with some ferretone. She has to be hungary by now, we also have some blankets there for her too. We're praying it's her and that she comes out soon.

I have heard a few story of ferrets getting in the walls. I hope that you find your little one. I lost one of my ferrets over the winter and it was the most terrifing night of my life. I really hope the noises you've been hearing are from her.

Here's hoping its your little one!!
IF she is in the wall she may not be able to get to where you have an opening. For example, there may be studs blocking her. If you've ever seen a house under construction, you'll know what I mean. If she can't get through she may head back out.
If you can narrow down where the sound is coming from and punch a hole in the wall, you might be able to get to her. If its a concrete wall that will be a serious obstacle.
Calling her through the walls or where you have the vent will help lead her to you. Ferrets can get disoriented but will follow the sound of a familiar voice. Remember they navigate by smell and sound.
Ferrets will scratch if trying to get out. Mice or rats or other rodents don't scratch. Are you hearing scratching sounds?
