Hi, i don't know if anyone knows about the Bird and Small Animal Rescue here in newfoundland.. But they are needing $1200 of donations for 2 ferrets that came into their care and was found out to have adrenal disease !
heres their story..
We have 2 sick ferrets in our care. Kyler came to us already in very poor condition while Chloe came to us healthy and was adopted, but just returned due to her condition. Both Chloe and Kyler suffer from Adrenal Disease, a common ferret problem. The most common symptoms of adrenal disease include the following:
- hair loss (usually beginning at the tail but can spread over the whole body)
- muscle loss and/or a potbelly appearance
- lethargy
- weight loss
- enlarged vulva in females
- males often strain while urinating
- Male ferrets can also return to intact male behavior including aggressiveness.
To treat adrenal disease there are a couple options, one being removing the adrenal gland. This is not the preferred method however, due to risk of death during surgery. The other option is a Deslorelin implant, which is placed under the skin while the ferret is under a light sedation. These implants last anywhere from 9 to 24 months.
The cost per ferret was quoted at about $450.00 to $500.00, total of $900.00 to $1000.00 to save both Chloe and Kyler and make them feel better.
The problem right now is the implants are not available until October or November. So, our option to help these 2 ferrets temporarily is to treat them with Lupron Depot injection which lasts about a month. These will cost about $200.00 total.
The total amount needed to help Kyler and Chloe is about $1200.00.
These 2 ferrets are very sweet and loving, we feel they deserve a chance to get better. Without treatment they will continue to get worse and will eventually die.
How can you help?
