Triple F Farms who breeds ferrets has been videotaped undercover showing horrific conditions and cruelty to ferrets.
Warning it is graphic and to those sensitive, you may not want to watch this:

The ferret community in the U.S. are marshalling to get on a letter writing campaign to shut this facility down!

Some additional information from someone who is extremely experienced with organizing rescues of this magnitude. This is from Barbara Osborn Clay’s Facebook post from Rockys Ferret Rescue & Shelter, please take a minute to read this: Barbara Osborn Clay “I've been doing ferret rescue for 18 yrs, this ain't my first rodeo, but it sure would be the biggest! I'm the Shelter Rep to The Ferret Council. It's my job to organize rescues, so I'll be very busy in the days and weeks to come. There's so much more involved. There's got to be a staging area where triage, assessment, treatment, ADV testing and vacs can be done. We're talking mega buck$$$ to pull this off. That facility alone would have to be donated and/or rented, and then we would need a staff of about 100 to even adequately tend to the animals and cages, or else we would quickly become what we just fought against. So often I've seen rescuers that needed to be rescued. We would have to have cages, food and water supply, bedding, pans, litter, the whole enchilada for over 6,000 ferrets!!! The logistics of just launching this rescue is a nightmare. I won't say it's impossible, but part of doing an effective rescue is that you must have 1) A rescue plan, with a staging area able to house the ferrets, 2) A Financial Plan that outlines all of the expenses, and HOW and FROM WHAT SOURCE the money would come to pay for the rescue, 3) Rehoming -how the heck to get them transported and WHO has room for them!!! If the outrage from the animal community is so effective that we shut down Triple F this week, what does everyone think will happen to the thousands of ferrets there? The plan has got to proceed the action to close them down, or else these ferrets will be destroyed. FACT. I've been working and networking rescues and rehoming issues all over the country for the past few years, and they are maxed out today. Oh yeah, transporting ferrets all over the USA, that would take another literal army, and oh my with the prices of gas, who would volunteer or pay to support that effort. Again, the logistics of saving the probable 8,000+ ferrets in their facility is not optimistic. No, the first step, as I wrote previously, is NOT to get them shut down before the first steps of the rescue are formulated, it would be a death sentence on each and every ferret there!!!. Basic question is where are we going to rehome 8,000 ferrets??? I'm the eternal optimist, but I'm also pragmatic and a realist when it comes to making sure no animal is harmed in the pursuit of saving them. Those shelters and homes would have to be screened too, each and every one of them. This will be discussion in The Ferret Council, and as I'm able to report back any plans, I will. I predict The HSUS will now come out of the shadows to execute the closing of Triple F. This won't be pretty if that happens.”

That is so sickening and made me cry, I went to the triple f website and on their front page they try to ensure that they are not treating the animals poorly. So then how come they could not mention the video?

They have been investigated by the FDA and have been charged with cruelty. Their website has not been changed since the report and is obviously a marketing ploy. Here is a blog, which was recently posted: USDA Report on Triple F Farms Released By Mom | Published September 17, 2011 The worst fears of ferret lovers around the world were confirmed on September 16, 2011 with the release of the USDA report of their inspection of Triple F Farms Inc. Contrary to what Triple F has claimed in their press release where they insisted that any and all reports of ferret abuse were false, the report instead confirms what was shown in the PETA video. Many of us held out hope that what they had found wouldn’t be as bad as PETA portrayed it to be, but it proved to be a false hope. The report details the horrible living conditions these poor babies face. It’s enough to make even the nicest person want to go grab their torch and pitchfork. Among the violations identified in the report: •Two non-veterinary employees performing major surgeries in rooms poorly sanitized using unsanitary methods. The USDA tried to identify where they received their train but were unable to do so. •Surgical rooms being used for storage. •Improper methods used for closing surgical sites leaving ferrets susceptible to infection. •Ferrets with infected wounds, infections of the eyes, lethargic, and unresponsive. In at least two cages were identified as having dead ferrets in with the live ferrets. •Broken feeders leaving ferrets without food •Ferrets left without water •Cages used for birthing were 4 feet off the ground and constructed out of a wire mesh with holes large enough for newborn kits to fall through. On the day of inspection they found two kits on the floor and that over 50 had been found on the floor that morning before the inspection began. •Not enough employees to manage the care of over 6000 ferrets spread out over 10 barns. Here is the full report for those who want to read it. Like many ferret lovers around the world I’m left feeling helpless to make any difference in the lives of the ferrets of Triple F Farms. What can I do from thousands of miles away other than sit and rage at the computer and cry into the fur of my beloved babies? After putting much thought into it I concluded the only thing I really can do is continue to blog about it. Continue to work on getting the news out as much as I can, this story is still receiving very little attention outside of the ferret community. For those of you like me you can join the letter campaign to our local news papers, and television stations across the nation. Write and call your state and federal representatives. Write the CDC, Petland and others who purchase their ferrets from Triple F Farms encouraging them to reconsider future purchases in light of the findings. A list of vendors can be found here. There are are also many petitions are available to help put an end to this abuse as well as a Facebook group that is for discussing possible options in addition to the petitions, and a great source of letters to help you get started. For now though Triple F Farms has been instructed to correct many of the things that were listed on the report and as painful as can be sometimes to stand by and let the law do it’s job, it’s precisely what we must do right now. The eyes of the ferret world are centered on Triple F and they’re painfully aware. Let’s hope that they take the mandate to clean up their act seriously. You probably cannot sign because the petition has expired. A verdict was already reached in regards to the conclusion of the case at the end of November. Unfortunately, it's not the best one. :/ www.halfratsandcarpetsharks.com/tag/triple-f-farms-cruelty/I pray that the company really does pull their act together for the sake of all those fuzzies.
