Wanted to let everyone know in NL that you now have a viable option if your ferret develops adrenal disease.
Dr. Tipple in Cornerbrook has the Deslorelin implant. A patient of his contacted me and it costs $430.00 in total to have it done. Expensive yes, but considerably less expensive than adrenal surgery, which you'd have to get done on the mainland. And I'm not even sure Lupron Depot is readily available, which runs around $75.00+ per month.
Adrenal disease is a terrible wasting disease, which destroys the ferret's quality of life. It makes them quite ill and males are at risk of developing life-threatening blockages from enlarged prostates.
When Lupron Depot came along it was a godsend. But it is expensive at around $75.00+ per month and last I heard very few, if any, vets in NL even carried it.
Deslorelin is a major step up in terms of medically managing adrenal disease and some exotic vets are opting to use it rather than putting a ferret through surgery.
It lasts anywhere from 8 mths - 2 years. On average I find it lasts about a year. I've had a number of ferrets receive it.
So having Deslorelin is a big deal!

Thats some good news for NL ! $430.00 its cheaper than a surgery. I heard deslorelin implants work well on ferrets. So thats good news. It makes me wonder .. does Dr. Drmac have deslorelin implants ? If not, is there any vet in NB who does ? My ferrets are still super healthy but I just want to inform myself about vet medecine, since my ferrets will already be 3 years old this summer. .. ( & Time goes by so fast ! I know they will be old before I got time to notice .. )

I don't know whether Dr. Drmac has them He is certainly aware of Deslorelin implants but whether he's pursued the volumes of paperwork necessary to bring them in, I'm not sure. However, Aletha's vet did bring them in. I think her name is Dr. Susan MacArthur in Fredericton, number (506) 460-8668. I would call and ask Dr. Drmac as well. If he doesn't have them, if enough people ask him, he may bring them in. Tressie
