Thanks for alert on the 6 year-old Annik. Very, very sad I have replied encouraging the people to consider surrendering her into our care saying we would take her without the cage, which they should be able to sell no problem. My heart breaks for this little one and I do hope they reconsider and allow her to live out what time she has left with her beloved family. Otherwise I do hope they surrender her to us. I can't imagine someone taking on a 6 year-old unless they are very experienced and are prepared to do palliative care, which I am certain would be required in the near future.... Tressie

In terms of the other ad, I have replied asking that they place a piece of carpet or some kind of cover on the wire floor because it will damage their ferrets' delicate paws.

I received a response from the person selling the ferret saying he/she's only had the ferret for a short time and that it was perfectly healthy. So I wrote back very politely explaining the reality of a 6 year-old's health and encouraging that the ferret at least be taken to a vet for a complete health check before being sold to an unsuspecting person who would be taking on a host of health issues. Here's the response: "I really don't give a f--k what you have to say" I took out the middle letters but I'm sure you can figure out what they were. It seems like a case where someone bought or got a ferret hoping to make a quick buck and doesn't care if the ferret may be ill before selling it to someone else. OR this is the original owner and didn't want to hear that a 6 year-old shouldn't be abandoned at this stage in life. I feel very badly for this poor little ferret. Its also a warning to people buying animals on kijiji to be careful. Buyer beware, as the saying goes. Poor little fuzzbutt Tressie

I really hate that kind of people .. no matter how polite you say the truth they just really "don't give a f**k". I wish this ferret can end up in a GOOD family and I wish those people die ! Grrr .. ! Sorry but this situation makes me sick ! Animals really can love humans without condition .. no matter if you're pretty or ugly, fat, small or tall. They are better than $1000 and that ferret deserves better than that ! Poor little angel ! .. how cruel for an angel to be in such a hell !

I've sent a message saying "why don't you give her away, you can make money with the ferret nation and all her accessories"and they told me they will not seperate the female ferret unless we give them $100 for her ! I said that I will not pay that much for a ferret that old and here's what they told me "My son answered the add. If you are really interested in her I will sell her only for $50.00. She hasn't had to have any vet care". My boyfriend says that its still too much asking for a 6 years old girl and he doesn't believe that she is as healthy as they say and he believes that ferret never has any vet care/check at all I whish I could help her ..

What I told the poster was that I absolutely guaranteed that this ferret at that age is not perfectly healthy. Tressie

Some good news on this saga ;D
Ashley, who is on our Board of Directors has made arrangements with the poster to buy the ferret from her for $50.00. She will be picked up either tonight or tomorrow. Unfortunately, Ashley cannot look after this ferret herself right now because she is doing hospice care with one of her own. Therefore, I will be driving to Moncton on Sunday to pick her up and bring her back as a foster.
Ashley is donating the cost of the ferret to FLSAC so that this little one has a safe and secure environment in the time she has left on earth.
Thank you Ashley!!

Ashley has the ferret, her name is Farah. From her description it would appear that rather than this being a senior ferret she is likely a very young ferret. She is the size of a kit with the energy to match. Although she has a badly broken canine her teeth are otherwise snowy white, consistent with a younger ferret. She appears otherwise to be very healthy.
The woman didn't seem to know a lot about her and Ashley thinks she hasn't had her very long. I suspect she doesn't know much about ferrets and was guestimating her age.
I have encouraged Ashley to consider keeping her, given this may very well be a baby. Ashley will discuss this with her SO and let me know whether I should come and get her.
All ends well for this little one!
Also heard back from the man with the wire bottom cage. He said that normally the floor of the cage has a thick cushion of blankets, which were removed for the photo so that potential buyers could see the floor. This is also good news.

Hello Everyone,
I just thought I'd let everyone know that I have decided to keep Farah as part of my ferret family. She is just way too cute for me to part with.
Health wise she seems to be in good shape, except for a broken canine, which she is having removed by our new ferret vet in Riverview on Monday.
Thanks Annik for posting the Kijiji ad on here, if it weren't for you I wouldn't have little Farah with me now:)
