It can be very discouraging when people are obviously misinformed about ferrets, however, it is also an opportunity to rectify commonly held myths and to educate people.
As you say people do tend to react in one of two ways. But even those with attitudes may do some more thinking and over time come around to a better understanding.
You are doing good work by informing people!
Have fun at the Frolics!

That ad has been taken down. However, when I went on kijiji to look for it there was another there. Free ferret that had just gone up 3 hours ago - so I called.
Frosty is now in his new home. Lovely family - 9 kids and another on the way. Big, beautiful home. 8 budgies, 2 Cockatiels and a pair of love birds.
The problem is that they are all free roam.... and I bet you can guess what's happened. The ferret has killed 3 budgies and killed one of the love birds. So they decided to rehome him.
By the time I got there the parents had gone out and already bought a pair of guinea pigs for the kids because Frosty was leaving. And they had been inundated with calls about the 'free' ferret (not surprizing).
I was told Frosty was an albino. He is not. He is a dark-eyed white. He's only a year old but pretty scruffy looking. They were feeding him kitten food, but with such a large family while loved, he would not have had much one-on-one care.
I'll have a better look at him tomorrow, just wanted to setlle him into a cage tonight.
So thank you Christina - although the ferret who prompted your post was no longer there - because of your post - another found a new home ;D

This is a legitimate private ferret rescue run by Bronwyn Zahra in Dartmouth, NS.
I have already checked them out : ) They are doing good work!
