www.birdandsmallanimalrescue.com/crittersforadoption.htmAge: Unknown Sex: Female Species: Ferret Temperment: Nervous Paired: No Arrived: December 13th, 2011 Status: Needs experienced foster home Email Address: smallanimalrescue@hotmail.com Phone: (709) 467-4301 About Terra: Hey everyone, the nice rescue folks named me Terra. Sadly, they don't have any information on me because I was found outside as a stray. Someone caught me finally and took me to Humane Services in St. John's. The next day one of the rescue people picked me up, and I gave him a nasty bite on his finger. He brought me to the rescue any way to see if maybe I could be worked with. Shortly after I arrived I bit again, but this time a gloved finger. You see, I'm very confused and scared and I'm not sure who to trust. If I could talk, I would have an interesting story to tell. The rescue folks are working with me and already can handle me away from my cage without gloves. I'm not available for adoption at this time, but they hope that with some work, and lots of TLC I will soon be ready for a loving new family!

Hey everyone, I have some great news about Terra, the stray ferret we just took in but I need help making the necessary arrangements. We have found a place for Terra to go where she can get the help she needs for her biting of hands and feet. Tressie, with Ferret Lovers of Atlantic Canada, will take Terra and either work with her until she is adoptable, or if she is never adoptable, Tressie will give her a furever home. THE PROBLEM (always a catch), is that Tressie is in Halifax, NS. I need someone to help me figure out the details on getting Terra from here to Halifax. If someone could check with airlines on possibility of flying her, either in cargo or attached to a ticket and under seat in carrying cage, if that isn't possible, we need to find someone driving and willing to take Terra along with them. Can anyone help save Terra? feel free to contact the rescue at 467-4301 or email ambrown@persona.ca.

Hi Christina,
I wanted to clarify a couple of things.
I am no longer affiliated with the Ferret Lovers Society of Atlantic Canada since becoming a moderator with the Ferret Health List (FHL). Ashley Galantai is the new Chair.
If I take Terra she will be coming to her forever home, I would not be rehoming her, nor adopting her out.
As far as I know, there are no airlines currently in Canada that allow ferrets in cabin or in cargo. West Jet used to accept them in cargo but no longer.
Sooo the only possibility is if someone is travelling here from NL via vehicle/ferry.
Tressie

Is there a possibility that Terra could get a ride to Halifax in the cab of a transport truck?

Hi Folks, Terra arrived at her new home this morning at 12:30 am! She was transported via Air Canada Live Cargo from St. John's to Deer Lake and then into Halifax. It was a long day for her because there were a number of delays along the way due to poor weather conditions. She has settled in well and appeared none the worse for wear from her long journey. Anne Marie had put a hammock in the carrier on my suggestion so she was able to get off the floor, which understandably got pretty dirty. She had food and a water bottle. She is a Real Canadian Ferret. Absolutely gorgeous, her photo does not do her justice. Clearly young, I would guestimate between 8-10 months. I have picked her up several times and cuddled her and she has not shown any signs of aggression ;D Her mannerisms and behaviour so far are identical to my Bambina's who was abandoned at Point Pleasant Park in 2010. She is a welcome addition to her new forever home Tressie

Thought you might be interested in an update on Terra, who I have renamed Piccolina (Little One in Italian).
Piccolina is super smart as is typical of RCFs, she is also extremely gentle and affectionate. She has bonded with Zapporah, whose companion Israel tragically died last November during anesthesia induction for a routine dental.
About 2 weeks ago - I received a call from Animal Control to see whether I would take in a 'vicious biter.' A sibling group of 3 ferrets had been brought in early January. The Director of the WildLife Rescue took one as a companion to one of hers, then someone else, allegedly experienced with ferrets took the other 2.
I was appalled that they had separated a bonded group and said so! Anyway the woman who had taken the 2 was bringing one back because she was a biter, and apparently she did not have time to rehabilitate her! ugh.....
So I agreed to take in this little girl, who was mistakenly identified as a male. I named her Dolcezza (Sweetness in Italian). She was absolutely terrified. She cowered in the back of the carrier and bolted at the slightest sound or movement. Notably, she did not bite me when I handled her.
I guestimated that she was around the same age as Piccolina and after a few days put her together with Piccolina, being ready to separate them quickly if necessary.
They bonded instantly! Then I introduced Zapporah, again love at first sight ;D
The 3 lost foundlings are now a bonded group and sleep, eat and play together ;D
Happy ending this time!
Tressie

that is wonderful news Tressie! everyone/everything needs a 2nd chance, and looks like every ferret that comes your way, is always happy in the end! god loves you Tressie, you are a wonderful person! When i first got my 2nd ferret (Jackie) she was EXACTLY like Dolcezza was when she came to you Tressie, she was scared of everything and everyone. Dolcezza is a very lucky girl to have found you. as well as Piccolina is too. Lucky Zaporah to have TWO new bestfriends
