Hey I just wanted to talk about my ferret icarus. Hes a very special little guy. Hes almost 3 years old now, and hes deaf ( didnt kno he was for the first 4 months of owning him ) hes also free range. He does not have a cage! hes lived in two different homes with me ( living with my parents and when i moved out ) so hes been in two interesting living situations. Hes lived with a dog and 3 cats in one home, and a dog and two cats in the current home we're in now. hes so smart and gentle. he gets along great with all the animals and they get along great with him. hes sucha joy to have around, even though hes so much work. but i feel great knowing i can trust him not to go get himself in trouble lol hes something special. Im almost proud of him for being sucha great pet! haha i dont really know what this post is about, maybe i just like going on about him, but i dunno haha hes just so awesome Attachments:

Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you genuinely love your little furbutt : ) Thank you for sharing your affection for your precious furbaby.
I would be cautious about leaving him free-range when you aren't home to supervise. I can without a shred of doubt, guarantee that he is quite capable of getting himself into dangerous and serious trouble if you aren't there to watch.
I have heard dozens of horror stories over the years from well meaning ferret owners, including one vet, whose ferrets died or were seriously injured when left unattended and not confined in the safety of a cage.
You will greatly regret not having had him in a safe environment and will never forgive yourself when he comes to harm.
Its not a matter of whether it will happen, but WHEN it will happen.
Some examples of actual cases:
- escaping outside through dryer hose, tearing throw window screen - getting trapped inside a big appliance, i.e., stove, dishwasher, washing machine - suffocating in a rolled carpet - getting stuck in a glass vase head down - being killed by the friendly family dog - climbing into couch and being crushed - getting caught in springs in box spring and mattress bedding - getting stepped on by family dog and dying from internal injuries - climbing up bookcase and falling, breaking back - chewing on electric cord and being electrocuted
I could go on, but I hope you get the message....
