As of right now I have 4 male ferrets and my past experiences always included 2 little girls plus boys......
Do male ferrets mark like canine boys can?? Not with the lifting of their legs but pooing high up. I have seen dogs poo in bushes on hills when they are very dominate and wondered if ferret try and do the same thing.....cuz boy can these boys poo high up, I have poo drips as high as 6 inches up.....and it is kinda messy and well I find funny too. Wondering if anyone has experience with something similar. My other boys never pooped this high and I wondered if it was too much testosterone, even though they are fixed:)
Just a silly observation and I thought I would ask:)
Cheers

Hi, I have one boy who has always pooped that way, and he is the only male Real Canadian ferret I've had. I assumed it was his little quirk. I've also had a number of male only groups and have not seen this in the others. Are you sure all 4 are doing it? Ferrets do tend to mimic behaviours and I suppose it is possible that your foursome may have learned that this is how its done. I also wonder whether some of that sort of behaviour comes from the pet store environment. From what I've seen at the pet stores, the poop ends up forming a mountain before the staff clean it up. And I would think if the ferret doesn't lift his butt high enough it might roll/plop back onto him Never heard it associated with sexual type behaviour, whereas, urine marking, much like a dog, can be a sign of early adrenal disease. Now you know why they make high back litterpans! It is a male thing. Not all do it. Size or breeder doesn't matter. One of my boys had a really high rise and frequently went over the edge. His buddy was way bigger and never did it.

Some people hang cloth, like an old towel behind the litter box and then you just launder the towel.
Are your litter boxes the ones with the high sides?
