Something of interest and light for a change that I'd like to share.
We've had a heavy discussion recently on the FHL about the direction a ferret's tail curves. People are noticing that as ferrets' age or get ill, they develop a distinctive kink/curve in their tails.
Well it seems that there is lots of evidence from animal studies, plus observations from ferret owners that a curve to right indicates 'happy' - whereas, a curve to the left indicates 'unhappy'. In fact people monitor their ferrets tail curves and if the tail remains curved to the left it generally is a sign of pain somewhere.
So I've been watching and observing..... and darned if it isn't true. Ferrets that are annoyed, angry or frustrated will curve their tails to the left. Not counting those who aren't feeling well and also tend to curve their tails to the left when feeling particularly miserable.
Whereas, when they are happy and playful..... curves to the right.
Works with dogs as well.
So now you can monitor your ferret's moods ;D
