Christina had posted about a ferret being sold in NS for $25.00 - her concern was that someone without ferret knowledge/experience would get the ferret. So I followed the link and it had already been taken down, however, there was another ad for a free ferret that had gone up!
So I called. It turns out that the ferret called Frosty, had killed another bird the family had - a lovebird. Its companion died shortly thereafter from grief. The ferret had killed 3 budgies and now the lovebird. So Dad decided he had to go.
Problem was that the birds and ferret were essentially free roam. There were also 9 kids in the family and another on the way, so mom had her hands full. They had 8 budgies left, 2 Cockatiels and had bought another pair of lovebirds! The parents loved Frosty but felt he was a danger to the birds.
By the time I got there they had already gone out and bought a pair of guinea pigs for the kids to replace the ferret.
Frosty is a year-old, a bit scruffy, both canines are broken off at the tips but thankfully he doesn't seem to experience pain when I tap them so they should be okay for now. He is a DEW although the family thought he was albino. They got him from Pets Unlimited and he was the runt of the kits that were in the pet store.
I was looking for a ferret or a pair to honour the memory of the two I recently lost - Dolcezze on March 15th and Tortellini in January. However, I was looking for an older or special needs ferret - but Frosty appeared! So I guess he was meant for me.
He does not respond to his name whatsoever - so I have renamed him Chrysappus (after a favourite philosopher of mine) ;D
I will let him get used to his new home and then start integrating him in a couple of weeks, probably with my 2 youngest ferrets who are also a year-old.
