For any of you who live in or are near Riverview, NB there is a lady that owns Best for Pets (out of her home). She normally doesn't carry alot of Evo ferret food but she can start to carry more of it depending on demand and she is about $5 cheaper than Global Foods. I know she is really handy to where I live so I will be buying my ferret food from her from now on. Just thought I would let everyone know in case anyone was interested.

Natura (Innova Evo) class action settlement by JadeWolf ยป Wed Jul 20, 2011 11:54 am So apparently Evo was (allegedly) lying when they said they used human-food-grade meat in Evo. And they've settled a class action lawsuit about it. They deny the claims, but are paying to avoid the lawsuit. Riiight. Anyway, if you bought: Innova, EVO, California Natural, HealthWise, Mother Nature, or Karma dog or cat food products during the time period from March 20, 2005 to July 8, 2011, you are a member of the class covered by the lawsuit. Information about the settlement is at www.petproductssettlement.com/. It has a PDF outlining the settlement and timeline. There's a pretty simple process to register as a member of the class (to get a portion of the settlement), and a form to exempt yourself from the settlement should you want to sue by yourself later. You should do one or the other if you fed Innova or Evo. It does not require a receipt, but there is an option to include one. You do need to provide a date that you purchased one of the foods (just one date) and the name, city and state of the retailer where you got it on that date. It took me about 10 minutes, including messing around with the receipt uploader before I figured out it won't accept a webpage, I had to make it into a bitmap in MS Paint. And the editorial segment: dangit, you can't trust anyone! In case anyone here hasn't heard, Evo was also just sold to P&G, and they're changing the formula, but the FDA allows them to use the old bags, *and the old ingredient list!!!* for 6 months!

Unfortunately the Class Action is limited to U.S. citizens, I called and checked with the attorneys.
In terms of whether to switch food, I think this is an individual judgement call. Most pet food manufacturers do not use human quality grade food. Sad but true.
Is Innova worse than others? Don't know for certain. The Class Action has primarily to do with the claim that they use human quality grade foods.
The good thing is that there are considerably more choices available, however, one has to become an informed consumer and read all labels. Of course that is assuming, labels are accurate.

I am still feeding INNOVA EVO to my gang. I think there has been an over-reaction by the public and until proven otherwise, I believe it is still a good food, certainly better than some of the lower quality ferret foods being sold. I have never used it as an exclusive food but mixed it with Totally Ferret Hypoallergenic that I order from the U.S. I also add Holistic Cat/Kitten for my seniors because protein levels should be lower for seniors, who are at risk for developing kidney failure. It is always a good idea to feed a mix of foods for a number of reasons. The one food may not always be available. There are some areas that may not carry the food if one moves or travels. I wouldn't get rid of the Innova EVO but suggest adding another type of good quality kibble to it (or two). The issue was that Natura Foods claimed to be using human quality grade meats, and in fact, used 'pet' grade meats. I mean how many people would be thrilled about eating high quality mice? Yet a whole mouse is a perfect food for ferrets and cats. Ferrets are not humans and should not be expected to be eating human quality food. Not even sure what that means. It was silly to believe that somehow, that made it better for our ferrets. The point was that it was misleading advertising, in the hopes that people would be impressed if they thought their animal companions were getting food fit for humans. And I guess people were impressed and now are outraged when it didn't turn out to be true. Well I was never tempted to snack on the EVO myself - even though it was claimed to be food fit for humans Tressie
