i thought i would put up a few more pictures since wayve has been here a while now here is a picture to show just how tiny wayve is. he is full grown and almost smaller than ginny, who is only 1 lb! handsome wayve! pretty ginny! wayve is really loving this tube... can't even get out for breakfast! and a little view of our new ferret room. i am really hating the carpet... ginny has even started following wayve's bad habit of going outside the litter box! thanks for looking!

They are sweethearts. Nice set up. I put heavy plastic (carpet runner grade) in vulnerable areas as I too have carpet.

thanks guys i think that i will have to invest in runners like that too, Heather. it is getting more and more frustrating to me. i am cleaning so often but i am worried about the places that they might be peeing without me noticing, like if they pee while i am at work and it is dry by the time i get home. i am worried that i will put the runners down and then they will start going at the edge of the runner... i put puppy pads down and they go at the edge of them wayve didn't have a litter box at his old house, he just went on paper towels in his cage. maybe that is at the root of my problem. that doesn't explain why ginny has given up on the litter though! i have been picking them up and putting them in the litter box if i catch them in the act. besides that i am just cleaning cleaning cleaning! we are considering getting cheap laminate flooring and putting it down on top of the carpet. that will help protect it somewhat. tayla, it is just mushy kibble it is their favourite. i feed go! grain free chicken turkey and duck cat food. then make it mushy with water and make it warm and i usually put a few drops of olive oil on top at supper time.

Hi Mindy, we are forever cleaning a changing newspapers and paper towels that we have in corners of the rooms all over the house. We have all hardwood floors upstairs and the full basement is all cement. Litter boxes don't work for these two. They do what is natural to them and usually when they wake up. Litter boxes and other manmade accessories are not on their "things to do list". Sometimes the paper towel and or newspaper is missed completely. Its like a target shoot for them. TayLa n' Abby = 1 Dad = 0 I guess this is all part of free roam. When they were confined in their cage, they would use the litter box Our kitchen is laminate flooring and several times we had a scatter rug near the door and that was targeted by one of them. Once their scent it there its ongoing. Sometimes they will find a new location and will not return to an old location. I use vinigar and water to wash up the leftovers ;D The only advantage is we can see their daily movements. This was a lifesaver when we had Wilson and he developed a pee problem, "urinary retention" OuCH!....... he was rushed to the vets then off to the hospital for adrenal surgery, it saved his life. Now we can monitor TayLa n' Abby on a daily basis, what goes in, must come out! Its a game with them today. We try to figure out, who's is who's ;D Good luck, John

i know there is nothing that i can do about their habits but i have to do something to protect the floors. i am renting. i am using nature clean pet and odor remover to get rid of the smells/any stains. it is basically hydrogen peroxide and water. i have heavy vinyl sheeting that i may put over the carpet with close supervision this weekend. or, i will most likely do what Heather has done and get some rubber mats. thank you for your help i am glad that you were able to catch wilson's problem so fast. i am hoping to get the deslorelin implant for wayve soon (whenever the vet gets it in) so hopefully we won't have to worry too much about urinary retention. that is so scary!

"that doesn't explain why ginny has given up on the litter though"! Ginny has not given up on the litter, she wants to do just like her new brother, she wants to give a try thats it Demon is the one and only ferret I know that will run the living room to his room just to go in his litter box. Johnny, will release himself in the first corner he chose. However, if Johnny is peeing in a corner in front of Demon, well Demon will do the same as soon as Johnny's done. It works like kids :"well, he does so I can too!" Same when Demon or Johnny are doing something, the other one will run to do the same. Even the cat ! Ferrets are playing in tubes, Meeko wants a tunnel too ! Meeko jumps on my rocking chair, the ferrets give a try ! See ? Wayve bad habit is "the" problem. If you can find a way to quickly get him litter-trained, Ginny's new habit will be gone at the same time since she is already litter trained Good luck with your carpets !

thanks! unfortunately i think that it will be hard for me to potty train wayve. they are out of their cage all the time in their room and i can't be in there all the time so i can't catch him in the act to put him in the box all the time. i am doing my best and putting him in the box every time i catch him when i am in there. i am also going to switch one of the small boxes for a giant sized one like the one we had in the other room (before we moved) in the closet. that way we will have 2 giant boxes in there and a few small ones. hopefully that will work. only time will tell i guess!
