Alot to think about.. I am going to give them a room of there own when i move. But i will always have a 1 level travel type cage and there kennels. There is a guy in my area who custom makes cages. he welds them. Im gonna see if he can copy the ferret nation. Save some money. He is real good at what he does. Alot of people go to him for cages.

"If you can afford it, a Ferret Nation cage is great to have! You can remove the bottom doors and put a step stool or ramp to the entrance so they can come and go as they please. And when and if needed, they can remain safely in their cage. One day, one or the other will require surgery (they all eventually do, for one thing or another) and having a cage to keep one in during convalescence will be a godsend." Dear life this is true. My friend put her ferrets in a ferret-proofed room but she has a ferret nation cage. They are never in but the day one of her ferret got the adrenal disease she has to put her in the FN. Well, I think I am going to give my ferrets their room back (if I can make it as safe as the room I got for them right now). However, I will buy a Ferret Nation because we are moving in 3 weeks into our new house and I need to take a month or 2 to make sure the room is safe for them. I will keep the FN for convalescence in case of surgery .. which I hope it will be in 9 years or more lol as I so want to keep them forever .. but I know its hard, I know a few experienced ferret owners Oh well .. I will think about it but I HAVE to get a FN anyways lol Thanks Tressie and folks for all your awesome advices ! Its really appreciated

The Ferret Nation and Critter Nation are actually the exact same cage, made by the same company, the ONLY difference between the two is that the bars on the Critter Nation are much closer together so that smaller animanls (ex. Rats) Are not able to get out of the cage. This cage would also be great for ferrets, but because of the bars being closer together it's going to cost you more money.
I just took a look at the Explorer cage, and it looks as though they copied the design of the Ferret Nation cage. It appears this would also be a suitable cage.

Well that solves that mystery! Thank you Ashley - I have been wondering what the difference is, the literature doesn't make it obvious.

That is an old (1987) article on how to keep LABORATORY ferrets. It is cruel but all lab animals are kept in cruel conditions, in my opinion.
