hey everyone, I have two ferrets..still quite young One year and a year and a half. I have become so attached to these little guys. One is Male -Jack Other the youngest Is Female-Jill both VERY docile and sweet temperment. and very affectionate.
It breaks my heart to have to give them up, Im actually Moving to Australia in April and wantto start the greiving process more sooner than later. They have complete roam of my house, two very ferret-safe rooms mostly. But can get used to a cage with ample space if need be.
They are two Sable ferrets.almost identicle in look, but the female is obviously a little smaller. The ferrets will come with all food, dishes, many toys, sleeping beds and cage accesories we have accumulated scince we have had them.
I want to make it very clear that Im very strict on who takes them, they sleep alot but they are still alot of work and you must be prepared for that ...but its so worth it they are just amazing. and they MUST NOT BE SEPARATED.
I live in saint john new brunswick and you can contact me on my email: melwhalen9@yahoo.ca
phone: 1-506-657-2386

Hi Melanie,
If you cannot find a good home for them before you move, please consider surrendering them into FLSAC's care. We will foster them; screen applicants before adopting them out; provide them with regular veterinary care; and under no circumstances will they be separated.
If this becomes a necessary option please contact me at: flsac@live.com or call me at (902) 477-7119.
Good luck in finding a good home for them!
Tressie

This actually seems to be my main option, Im glad you will be screening applicants.I just adore these two ferrets so much..I feel like Im giving up my children and Im a horrible mother for doing so! But I have to leave the country and for one No airlines will carry ferrets.I have tried. and Australia is just way to extreme of a temperature for these little guys. My two main concerns are they not be separated.which Im happy to hear that they wont be..and that they go to a good home that are willing to care for them whole heartily. I will definitly be in touch. I am so over joyed that there is an association for ferrt lovers and ferrets themselves out there They are the worlds best pets

Hi Melanie,
Although there are ferrets in Australia, you cannot import them into Australia. So even if there was an airline that would transport them you would not have been allowed to bring them into the continent.
I would suggest that you keep them with you as long as possible. They will no doubt grieve as well. If you are moving in April, end of March should be close enough for surrendering them over to us.
Contact me closer to that time to make arrangements. We will require a surrender contract, which can be done at the time of surrender.
Take the next few months to spend quality time with them.
Warmest Regards, Tressie

Ok I have decided against giving them up. I just cannnot do it..they are everything to me AND there are just too many unwanted animals out there. I also read the story about the lady who went to isreal and had to surrender her little ferret and it just about broke my heart. Does anybody of great reputation board ferrets for six months? I am going to try family first, including my best friend who has had a ferre for 8 years but her little baby fuzzy is very very sick and do not want to add to her stress. but would it be detremental to the ferrets to leave them in someone elses care for that long? I do not want them to stress out and fall ill.

Hi Melanie, They would have been stressed if you would have re-homed them, or sold them. There is no way around it, if you leave, they will grieve and miss you. However, ferrets don't forget and if you board them and come back, they will be thrilled to see their human mama again. Have they spent any time with the people you are considering? If they are familiar with them, then the transition will be less stressful. Now - I do boarding through FLSAC. I haven't worked out a rate for long-term boarding yet but we can certainly negotiate something. I'll call my friend Diddy, Shelter Director with MaFF to see what her rates for long-term boarding are. I'll also check with FRSO and see what their rates are. If family or friends don't work out and you want to discuss arranging longterm boarding with me, please email me at:flsac@live.com or to my personal email: tressiedu@hotmail.com Or you can call me at: 902-477-7119. You can see my set-up on our website: www.flsatlanticcanada.org/boardingservicesThe only thing that will be changing about the boarding is that unfortunately, Dr. Benoit is moving to Montreal, which I only learned today. We haven't had a chance to find another rescue vet. Tressie

" ferrets don't forget " OMG so true ! Every christmas we go see our family in our hometown. My ferrets ALWAYS remember where's the dog water dish, where's the living room and unfortunatly the plants (that we need to remove, of course) etc. They seem to do an "inspection" of the whole house to make sure everythings on place where its supposed to be. Ferrets are probably the most intelligent criters ever
