Well I wasn't exactly looking to add to my fur family, however, this little guy was posted for sale on kijiji. He's under a year old and the young woman who acquired him from someone in the valley 4 months ago, simply doesn't have time for him. She didn't want to surrender him but was willing to sell him for what she paid for him - $100.00.
When she send me the picture below I knew I had to get him out of there. She seemed genuinely concerned for his welfare but his environment wasn't the best. As you can see from the pic he only had one hammock and other than a litter box, water and food bowls his cage was pretty sparse.
He was rarely let out and there were a number of dogs in the house, which was not ferret-proofed. She also had a young child who clearly had an upper respiratory infection. She used non-clumping cat litter (ugh) and he was fed the cheapest Living World ferret food mixed with a low quality kitten kibble. His nails of course were not trimmed.
I give her credit for acknowledging his needs weren't being met although her fear was that he would turn on her because he was neglected.
I have renamed him Cappuccino. He's got a very sweet temperament and is a bit gangly but should fill out in time. I trimmed his nails and have mixed his old food with the mix I give my gang. He has a three-level Ferret Nation to himself at the moment, fresh bedding, two hammocks and soft blankets, etc. and seems content. I'll post a better picture of him once he's had time to settle in.
I'm pretty sure he has ear mites so will be taking him in for vet check this week.
