i think that you should bring your ferret to a vet. these little guys go downhill very fast. with diarrhea a ferret can get dehydrated very quickly.
you asked in another thread what kind of soup you should give: what i usually do is soak some of their regular kibble in warm water until it is mushy and then add a little canned pumpkin. make sure you get 100% pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling. you can also get hill prescription diet a/d canned food from the vet and mush that up with some warm water.
you really need to take rickie to the vet.

Hope you'll find money pretty soon ! That's why my boyfriend and I banked money for our ferrets .. just in case they get sick or something .. Pets are like kids, they can get sick suddenly and ferrets are prone to illness

I had money put aside... but my Lab Terrier mix got sick a while back and we had to pay a couple $1000.00 to save her life... and a few months b4 that my Yorkie needed a hip replace ment.. that cost $1000.00 for the surjery plus another $1000.00 to travel to St.johns and find a pet friendly hotel whfor the 2 nightts we had 2 stay out there... Rickey was a surprize pet really... Seen him on the classifieds and seen how he was living and just had 2 get him.. He spent 2 years in a little rabbit cage... He was dirty and was very angrey..the bars on his old cage R chewed to peaces... I couldn't just leave him there.... they also have 5 or more cats in bad condition.. out side there house .. Anyways.. i cleaned his litter box againg last nihgt n today and it's back 2 normal ..but i'm still gonna take him in for a check up..just inn case...

my ferret fred has green poop when he is stressed out for some reason. it is not BRIGHT green, that is a sign of ECE. his poop is more of a forest green colour. that pretty much means upset tummy. fred has a really sensitive tummy, he is a really sensitive guy.
keep a close eye on Rickey and make sure his poop stays normal and that he is eating and drinking on his own. if you pinch the back of his neck the skin should spring right back. if it stays up he is dehydrated and he needs to see a vet right away.
making the soup and giving it to him every day is a good idea because then if he is used to it it will be much easier to give it to him when he is sick.
another good thing to make the soup out of is chicken baby food. but make sure you get the one that is only chicken and chicken broth, no veggies. just mix a little of that with some warm water and some canned pumpkin.

Oh sorry Christina for your bad luck ! My god that was not a easy week for you ! I hope they are better now ! And I'm agree with Mindy .. if its a green diarea, it can be stress or upset tummy .. HOWEVER if it happen too often it can be ECE .. If you can take him to your vet you will be more sure .. hope he is okay ! -xox-

that is why i told Christina to monitor rickey to make sure he is having normal poops. if he has the occasional forest green poopie is it most likely an upset tummy. if it is bright green and is not occasional then he needs to see a vet ASAP
fred has digestive issues. he has dr. Benoit about this.

did you take him for a check up when you got him? it is a good idea to take a new pet to your vet as soon as you can. i think that a check up is in order.
you live in the stephenville area right? your vet is $100 just for an office visit? that is very, very pricey. there is a vet in corner brook, dr. Osmond, who sees ferrets if you are able to get into to. my vet, dr. tipple, also sees ferrets and they are open on saturdays. dr. osmond works at animal heath center and dr. tipple works are humber valley vet clinic.

Hi,
Some ferrets are more sensitive than others and you being away at school might be enough to trigger stress for him, especially if he has abandonment issues from his previous environment.
IF it is ECE it will come and go for anywhere from 6 months to a year, BUT it generally means a few days of diarreah, not the intermittent green poop you describe.
ECE poop is a vivid lime green slime.
Blobby, mucousy, green poop is generally a sign of EGE.
Frothy, yellow - bacterial infection.
Black, tarry - bleeding in upper GI tract i.e., ulcer.
Frank blood - coccidia or colitis.
Forest green poop means that his food is transiting through his system before its had a chance to be absorbed. If its intermittent it can be from anything like new food (maybe snuck a doggie kibble) to stress.
However, as Mindy suggested, if diarreah persists they can get dehydrated quickly and that is not good. I would be less concerned when its interspersed with episodes of good stool.
I also agree its a good idea to get a vet check, especially given his history. However, I would not take him to a vet who doesn't know much about ferrets because he/she is not likely to know what is wrong, that is, IF anything is wrong. Whereas, if the vet is experienced in ferrets then the $100.00 would be well worth it - if not, I would look around for one more knowledgeable.
The rule of thumb is - if the poop is still abnormal after 72 hours - its more likely illness related and a vet visit is more urgent. If it resolves within 72 hours, he should be fine.
Tressie

His diarea has almost stoped... it was rally runny but no it looks to be almost as it was when i first got him..which i thought was normal...
I got Rickey August 20th of this year.. he has been in 2 homes b4 i got him, he has had 3 cages sence i've had him .. b4 i went back 2 school i would be home almost all the time.. except for shoping.. so he mihgt miss me durning the day..this could be his stress... And yes he has snuck a peace or 2 of dog food..i take it away when he come out of his cage now so he can't eat anymore... he still comes out lunch time when i'm on my break and is out at 4ish until 9-10ish... depends on when he wakes upp.. so i no he's getting out alot..
