I seen a ferret first aid kit online and thought it would be great to have..Unfortunatly I do not have a credit card nor do I know the first thing about Pay Pal so I do not order stuff online. I checked a few places that do carry ferret stuff and none of them carry those first aid kits..so I was thinking of putting one together just incase. Anyone have any idea of what I should put in it?? So far all I have are tweezers, scissors peroxide and honey(if god forbid..one may develop insulnoma) since I have no karo syrup...I feel like I should have more stuff added. Any idea's?? Has anyone here ever bought the actual ferret first aid kit??

Hi, Karo is the American name for corn syrup e.g., kleenix for tissue. Honey or maple syrup works just as well. Here’s a few links with suggestions for what your first aid kit should contain: www.ferret-universe.com/health/first_aid.aspwww.ferret.com/ferret-articles/a-ferret-first-aid-kit/10/Better more comprehensive list: www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=11+2065&aid=556Overview of various kinds of emergencies, first aid kit items and general care: miamiferret.org/ffaid.htmHaving received surrendered ferrets at all hours of the day and night, some who were very ill – basic things to always have on hand: • 2 -3 cans Hills Prescription A/D – mix a ¼ can with warm water and finger feed (i.e., ferret licks it off your finger) – highly palatable, absorbed instantly. Have to get from vet. • package of Carnivore Care by Oxbow (powdered mix) – mix into water/A/d soup. Very expensive but keeps a long time. Once opened refrigerate. Have to get from vet. • can of 100% pure pumpkin – to firm stool if ferret has diarreah Mix heaping tsp,. into A/D soup • several jars of chicken with broth baby food. • bottle of unflavored Pediatlyte (once opened it expires in 72 hours, does not have to be refrigerated but DO NOT give with anything else including water or you will throw off the ferret’s chemistry severely. This is good for rehydrating, only need to give between .05mL - .10mL couple of times a day. • FerretLax/petroleum jelly for obstructions – If you suspect an obstruction do not force food or water. • Karo (corn syrup); honey or maple syrup for insulinomic crashes (rub directly into gums followed by high protein food like A/D). Have Poison Control number handy – on fridge or near phone: 1-800-213-6680. This is the number your vet would use and is available 24/7 throughout North America. There is a small charge for this service, do need a credit card. Have your vet’s number written somewhere handy and the Emergency Veterinary number for after hours emergencies. Print and post symptom chart: www.flsatlanticcanada.org/health2Have a carrier ready to go – small water bottle attached, hang hammock in carrier, blankets and puppy pad on floor. Write your name on carrier with permanent marker. Get your ferret to vet asap. There is no substitute for veterinary care. Tressie
