I often take my ferrets out at night time because they seem to enjoy it more outdoors at night as they seem more active when it is dark. I ran into two neighbors as I had Eris out there a few nights ago, we stopped to talk, One neighbor who loves my ferrets asked if she could take Eris for a walk, I was like sure, so I then sat on the bench with the other neighbor. As we were sitting there I got to get a glimpse of what Airy looks like to people from a distance when it is dark and she looked identical to a squirrel same bushy tail and all. My neighbor and Airy were running and when Airy runs she kind of hops..looked like the movement of a squirrel. I thought it was pretty neat, then the next night I had Airy out in the front yard, there were some teenagers walking down the road and they call out to me "Hey, is that a squirrel you have there?" and I was like "no its a ferret" They didn't even believe me so they came over for a closer look and to their surprise they seen that she was a ferret lol. One guy said his sister has a ferret so he was surprised that he wasn't able to tell what she was lol.

haha what a funny story ;D I liked it ! I often take my ferrets out at night time because they seem to enjoy it more outdoors at night as they seem more active when it is dark. Its funny because my ferrets don't like to take a walk outside when its dark, well I mean when its "totally dark" ;D lol They seem scared or something.

I use such instances as an opportunity to educate people about ferrets. For example, "Ferrets and pine martens are in the same family Mustelidae but ferrets have been domesticated for over 2500 years, blah, blah, blah...." People get a 'Ferrets 101' mini lecture whether they want it or not Tressie

I like doing that too sometimes people told us that they want a ferret and ask us if they are easy to care of .. 98% of time they change their mind ! I can only remember of a lady that told me she was still interested. Well .. I'm glad people can realize that ferrets are not for everyone but when you are ready for them, they are the best pets Its unbelievable how much people think that they are cheap pets and easy to look at. My ferrets are so show off ! They are always ready for cuddles and pictures ! & they follow so well in leash ! Some people call them "puppies" !
