Hey guys, I was talking to the owner of a pet shop a few days ago about ferrets and he told me that you can put them outside for short periods of time in winter so they can play in the snow. Is that safe? Not so sure about it so I thought I'd ask you guys for some opinions and or answers. Thanks in advance. -Lindsey

Ferrets either love to play in snow or hate it! If you have a ferret who doesn't like it - don't push it. Whereas if you have a snowbunny ferret take them out for short periods of time as long as its not too bitterly cold or they can get frost bite on their toes, nose or ears. Those that enjoy snow love to dig in it. Ferrets can tolerate cold temperatures much better than hot temperatures. Here's a link to some great information about taking them out in the wintertime: www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?aid=2214Tressie

our friends here in baie verte take their ferrets out all the time in the winter. 2 of theirs really like the snow but their third one is not a huge fan because she gets cold. i think she may actually be an angora ferret, she has much longer and softer fur than the other ferrets. i may bring some snow in this winter and put it in the bathtub for fred and ginny to get a chance to dig in it.

We have put snow in the bathtub before and Rupert and Jacob loved it. I piled it up and started digging a little tunnel and they caught right on. I took them out every five or ten minutes and let them run around on some towels until thier paws had warmed up and they kept going for about half an hour before they got sick of it.
I've also filled a big blue tub (the kind with the rope handles) with shredded computer paper and they loved that too.

Hey,
I'm the friend that Mindy was talking about LOL.... Yeah 2 of my ferts one of my females (Suzie) and my male (Zeus) LOVE the snow... We put them on harnesses and let them have at it especially fresh snow falls they hop through it and really have a good time... I only have them out for about 5 minutes at a time, I get them to come in and get their little feet warm and then they want to go again! My other ferret (Mittens) really don't like it, I tried her and as soon as I put her down she started to climb my leg, so I think thats a pretty good sign that it wasn't fun for her, so she stays inside and hangs out....

My baby Jack LOVES winter. I havent tried Jill yet she was less then 6 months old and she was too young.but this winter we will give it a try. when we take jack out in soft fluffy snow all you can see is his red leash and just something like a torpedo underneath, until he pops his little face up.its the CUTEST THING.
